Team Cascade participated in a recycling training organized by Education District 1 in Lagos State, themed “Turning Waste to Wealth.” The event brought together students, teachers, school coordinators, and volunteers for a hands-on learning experience focused on practical environmental responsibility.
Rather than discussing recycling only in theory, facilitators demonstrated simple, replicable methods for converting everyday waste, such as plastic bottles, paper, and discarded materials, into useful and sometimes marketable products. Participants saw firsthand how items often thrown away could become storage containers, decorative pieces, or reusable materials with economic value.
For many students, it was a shift in perspective. Waste was no longer just something to discard; it became a resource that, when managed creatively, could reduce pollution and even generate income. Teachers also explored ways to integrate recycling awareness into classroom activities, helping to reinforce sustainable habits within school communities.
The training emphasized personal responsibility and collective action. Clean environments begin with informed individuals. By equipping participants with practical knowledge and achievable steps, the session moved sustainability from abstract conversation to everyday practice.
When students and educators understand that small actions, like sorting waste or repurposing materials, can protect their environment and create opportunity, sustainability becomes real, accessible, and community-driven.
