Pedalling Forward: How a Cycling Race Is Changing the Story of Ode-Itsekiri

Team Cascade supported Iwere Sports Center in hosting the first-ever cycling race in Ode-Itsekiri, a historic community event that brought people together through sport and shared experience.

The race welcomed both professional cyclists and first-time participants. Some came prepared with racing gear and training experience; others came with determination and curiosity. What united them was the willingness to ride together.

As cyclists moved through roads bordered by creeks, rivers, and thick mangroves, spectators watched not just a race, but a celebration of place. The natural beauty of the region became part of the story, reminding everyone present of the environmental heritage worth preserving.

For young attendees, it was inspiring to see discipline, endurance, and sportsmanship displayed up close. For the community, it was a moment of pride, proof that large, organized recreational events can thrive locally.

Cascade’s support reflected its belief that sustainability also includes healthy lifestyles, community cohesion, and safe spaces for recreation.

The cycling race was more than movement on wheels, it was momentum for community engagement, wellness, and appreciation of the environment that surrounds us.
